The extra power derives from larger intercoolers and re-calibration of the engine management system. As part of the package the brakes get an upgrade too, with new aluminium six-pot front callipers. These allow a 12 per cent increase in pad area to work against the bigger 380mm front discs; the rear discs grow to 358mm.
Performance gains are relatively modest - claimed top speed goes from 165mph to 167mph while the 0-60mph sprint drops from 5.2 to 4.9sec - but they need to be seen in the context of a 2.4-ton off-roader. The price of this option is £10,223, if fitted at the factory.
The Cayenne also gets the option of a panoramic glass roof that's four times larger than the current sunroof. It features three glass sections that can be set in 15 different configurations.
